BURRARD CLEAN OPERATIONS /
WESTERN CANADA MARINE RESPONSE CORPORATION

Area Plans

Situated in the Vancouver area, Burrard Clean Operations (BCO) is able to quickly respond to spills in the southern Strait of Georgia, Burrard Inlet or in the Fraser River. Since BCO's mandate is to protect all of BC's navigable waters, much of our spill response equipment inventory is located throughout the remainder of the province. This ensures a timely response to spills, regardless of their location.

BCO has developed 8 Area reference and resource information Plans to maximize efficiencies in oil spill response, and to accelerate the response efforts. Each Plan describes:

  • Area sensitivities

  • ICP locations

  • Local contacts

  • Staging areas

  • Vessel launch locations

  • Helispots
  • Protection/treatment strategies

  • Equipment resources

  • Logistical support services

The eight regions have been strategically divided based this information and are named after the geographic area they represent:

  • Strait of Juan de Fuca

  • Fraser River

  • Vancouver Harbour

  • Georgia Strait

  • West Coast Vancouver Island

  • North Vancouver Island

  • Prince Rupert

  • Queen Charlotte Islands
