BURRARD CLEAN OPERATIONS /
WESTERN CANADA MARINE RESPONSE CORPORATION

Preparedness

Burrard Clean Operations (BCO) responds to approximately 20 spills each year in our Geographic Area of Response through the use of a fully implemented Incident Command System (ICS).

Incident Command Post

With any major incident, an Incident Command Post (ICP) will be established as a facility where the coordination of response efforts will be undertaken. The ICP will house the Incident Commander from the Responsible Party (RP), the Response Organization (RO) Spill Response Manager, the RO and RP Command Staff, the Regional Environmental Emergency Team (REET), stakeholders and the General Staff who will oversee all incident operations.

BCO has developed a detailed Field Operations Guide (FOG) for each ICS position. We have tailored our guide to the Canadian requirements and created a step-by-step list of tasks, by position, from the initial response through to the demobilization of resources. The guide allows an individual with minimum supervision to undertake activities within their selected area of responsibility without waiting for direction.

Command Post Job Aids

In conjunction with the FOG, we have also developed a number of display boards and job aids which organizes the information and paper flow. Details are available for all members.
